Tawandang is a mega-restaurant/bar/club/disco/cabaret show. It has seating for over 400 people and the atmosphere is electric.
A massive stage provides entertainment and cultural performances and a 12 piece big band keeps the crowd entertained. The best time to arrive is around 9:00 p.m. as the crowds start to pour in around 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and the place is usual always full.
The traditional shows are entertaining and often hilarious, the service is exceptional, especially if you tip the very pleasant waitresses. Tawandang offer a fairly extensive range of local and Northern Thai food with a few foreign delights thrown including Pork knuckle. Bring your own spirits and wine and just buy the mixers and ice. (They do not sell wine)
Tawandang is the place to be if you love Thai music, enjoy mixing with the locals and just enjoy having a good time. Free entry makes this place incredible value for money.
Transport is a breeze and tuk tuks are always available at the front door or you can easily park your vehicle out the front in their massive car park. (50 baht fee). Dress well, be humble and you will have a blast! It is definitely something different from the usual night out. Every visit to Chiang Mai should include a visit to Tawandang.
Tip 1: Bring ID (Passport or Driver’s License) – no matter how old you are. Minimum age is 20 and they will check.
Tip 2: Book a table in advance or you might have to sit down the back.
Tip 3: Bring a bottle of your favorite liquor or wine and just pay the corkage fee (200 baht surcharge).
Tip 4: Bring ear plugs if you do not like loud music.
